Feeling like your Head Boiling? Feel not!

Do you come across situations where something really gets to you, something really bothers you deep inside so much that your gut swells up and you can actually feel the nerves racking in your mind? Okay I exaggerated it but any situation a little similar to it? If yes then you, my friend, need to know something.

You know they say a dog is a man’s best friend? Yes they say it and you know it. But that’s not what I am planning to tell you. I already think dogs come later, but never mind that either. What I intend to say is, that first the man comes himself. He is his own best friend first, and will obviously be his own first enemy. Now there are countless ways how a man could harm himself, and become the fire throwing, nerve racking raging horse that we mentioned above. Okay we are not talking about suicidal cases here. We are more inclined towards virtual ways of harming one’s own self.

I am a doctor and work in such an environment where at one moment everything is fine , but at another moment everything can come down to a total chaos. You have to be proactive, diligent, attentive and on run all the time.

In such an environment, it helps to have an equally efficient team. However, sometimes, the cards are played against you. There could be a series of unfortunate events (your hard luck) turning everything into a complete mess, or an already aggressive situation can become more monstrous. In such cases, it is quite natural to start blowing fumes and produce fire.

This is not good. A little anger is okay to keep things steady (one has the right to feed his demons), but too much anger or frustration is hazardous for one’s own self, making him his own enemy.

I encounter many such situations. Probably already being a hot tempered person by default, mercury in my mind shoots up very rapidly. Instead of becoming a raging Godzilla, I keep check of my anger through self-therapy:

1. Take a Deep Breath

Calm down. Know this is not the end of the world. With calm approach you can address things in a much better way.

2. Know your Boundaries:

You are not the manager of the world. You may point out to someone or something wrong politely, but you cannot make them do it. You do not control everyone.

3. Settle the Cause:

When angry, think of the cause of the anger. Settling the cause may be beneficial.

4. Small Breaks:

Try to take small breaks in your busy schedules. This will not only keep your stamina up, but also keep you relaxed.

5. Self-harm by Anger:

Remember anger does not affect anyone but your own self. It will have bad effects on your mind, your body and your soul, but neither will it release your stress, not solve your problem. So always keep a check on it.

6. Laugh or Smile:

You cannot go about and become a complete clown by laughing your head off, but smiling will keep you relaxed and make you look cute (:-P) And of course, cracking a joke with your fellow buddy is not prohibited, is it?

Okay so that was me sharing my tips with you, although obviously they are not mine, they are general. But feel free to leave in comments what you do to keep your anger under control. I would love to add it to my list. :) Till then, see ya!
