Early to Bed, Early to Rise — Still Holding Up?

There’s a very famous old adage that goes saying “Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise” by Benjamin Franklin. But I don’t really think that it has left much of its mark now. I am not saying it’s not right, it is definitely right and still holds significance, but now there are numerous other cases of night owls as well climbing the higher and higher ladders of success. People who work till later and later hours of the night, while rubbing their eyes or gulping down energy drinks one after the other.

But let me remind you that working so late doesn’t at all mean that you continue a long slumber till noon the next day! Working late means working your a** off for your dreams and making the most of the next day as well. Because no matter whatever your schedule may be, no matter whether you are an early bird or late night owl, you just cannot deny the benefits of a good night sleep or early morning endeavors.

Now personally I am a late night owl. No matter how early I have to get up the next day, I always continue my work till late in the night, and frankly speaking mostly it’s not even that of an important stuff. It’s sometimes quite causal stuff that can be done the next day too, but no, I have to do it the same night, no matter how late it has got! Even if it’s just a movie or a serial episode that needs catching up.

But despite my so late nights, I am not at all an advocate of giving up the night sleep. Because I do know that no matter how much advanced we get, there will be things at which our ancestors will always be one step ahead of us, and early night and early morning are just one of those things, or maybe two.

And I am not talking about the medical benefits of a good night sleep. I am talking about the whole sense of spiritual, emotional and physical sense. That sweep of energy from within, and that positive energy that radiates from one’s body in early rise have no parallel. Add to that the mesmerizing beauty of the nature, the cool breeze as it rattles the leaves, the morning sun as it spreads its rays in every corner, the chirping of the birds and their flocks flying, the trees, the leaves, the animals all look so rejuvenating! It looks like the whole of the world has been washed in the night to manifest its sparkling beauty in the morning. You don’t have the fear of running out late, or the pressure of day ending, or a piling to-do list that needs to be checked of. You know you have solid 9, or maybe more hours to get your work done and still have the night to yourself. You can actually have a very good kick off of the day and get more work done if you start early than starting at the later hours.

And now with more rejuvenating techniques and refreshing drinks, one doesn’t even need too worry about the sleepiness that overcomes in the morning. And not to mention the freshness of mind and energy after waking up, when the night sleep actually washes you mentally to prepare for the next day. Add to that a nice warm cup of coffee and there you are! Ready for the day ahead!

I write as if I am an early bird, but deep inside, I am not. But now after writing about it and dotting its effectiveness, I feel it’s the right thing to do. I don’t know, maybe I should give it a try? I think I should, and I think I will. What have you decided?
